Mr. Lance Harrison
I appreciate the opportunity to work with
such wonderful children at the junior high. Preston Junior High School is
home to 580 students in grades 6-8. Our mission is to build on the
basic skills acquired in elementary school, to meet the unique physical,
social, emotional and intellectual needs of pre and early adolescence, and
to prepare students for success not only in high school but also in life.
Our teachers receive instructional training throughout the school year on
professional development days. As teachers implement best teaching
practices, student learning and academic achievement improves. In an
effort to improve our practices, teachers continually ask themselves why
they do certain things that they currently do. All decisions will be based
on the effect it will have on each student's educational outcome. The
school's learning environment should be conducive to teaching and
learning. As a school, we will look at our performances and make changes
as necessary.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of the
before school and after school help that teachers provide. This P.A.S.S.
(Positive Alternative for Student Success) program provides tutoring to
students in all subjects. We also have computers available for students to
use before and after school.
In the past, we conveyed to students that they were
"Believers, Leaders, Achievers, and Succeeders." We will still impart that
same message and strive to improve student learning through increased
Rigor, Relevance, Relationships, and Reflection--with a specific focus
this year on making those caring connections with students and
communicating successfully with parents.
Our Goal is for students and parents to feel that the
school environment is welcoming and supportive. We will strengthen the
home/school partnership through effective and timely communication. For
students to feel more a part of our school, we offer intramural activities
during the lunchtime hours. I encourage all students to get involved. In
our pursuit to create an inviting school atmosphere, I would like to
extend a special invitation to welcome all parents into the school.
Parental commitment to education and that partnership with the school
helps students achieve much success. Let's make this a great school year.
